Following up on the previous unit on receptive skills, this unit introduces the productive skills: speaking and writing. The unit starts off by introducing the fact that writing is the language skill most often neglected in a classroom, and also the four reason people communicate (be it through script or speech). I was gladdened that time was taken to explain the difference between accuracy and fluency, and the various activities and techniques a teacher can employ in the classroom to focus on each. As always, the two sample ESA lessons plans provide good examples to the inexperienced teacher on how to prepare and execute reading and writing lessons.
