In this unit I have learnt the importance of teaching pronunciation, for accuracy and clarity of communication and the difficulties within the English language. The challenge of language teachers is to get students to speak with expression while they concentrate on the content and grammar rules. Intonation and stress (the main emphasis in a sentence) fascinatingly give out many messages about the frame of mind of the speaker, the unspoken implications and what is coming later. I have studied the International phonetic (or phonemic) alphabet and the different sounds produced by the mouth (articulation) when uttering consonants, vowels and diphthongs.
