In Lesson 11, I learned about receptive skills and the difference between reading and listening for a purpose and reading and listening for entertainment. Also, I thought it was interesting how we are able to pre-teach certain vocabulary to students prior to the lesson to help them understand and comprehend better. The basic things to remember to successfully teach receptive skills are to choose material that is of interest to the students, build their interest, pre-teach difficult vocabulary, vary the material depending on the students, use the material to practice different skills, use realistic tasks to aid comprehension, incorporate activate phases.
