It never fails to amaze me how obvious something is when I read it but how suddenly confusing it becomes during the test...and I am a native English speaker!! It reminds me how much more difficult it is for students who are learning English As I am studying Mandarin at the moment I am well aware of the struggle between listening and reading. I also experience something not stressed here; in that in the learning situatkon the speech is usually slower, the teacher attentive to the answer and prepared to bypass your struggles. Whereas outside tbe learning environment people speak quickly and are not necessarily usex to having to listen carefully tbemselves.
