In this unit, I learned that speaking and writing are substantially different but are both used for the same purpose. For speaking, we have accuracy activities and fluency activities. Accuracy activities are concentrated on producing correct language (vocabulary and grammar), and such activities are usually controlled by the teacher to ensure accurate reproduction of language. Fluency activities allows the students to be creative with the language and focuses on the effectiveness and flow of the communication. The scenarios used in the fluency activities are usually created by the teacher but the content of the language is the choice of the students'. There are several sub-skills to teaching writing skills: handwriting, spelling, and punctuation. Often in times, we use games as an activity to help the students to learn and is often used in the activate phase of the ESA methodology. Many of the games that we play can be incorporated into our classrooms, games have an element of fun, students are then more willing to participate and will benefit greatly from it.
