The fundamental frameworks supporting the TEFL?s Engage-Study-Activate model highlights the wide variety of teaching theories and methods that have been utilized in both the past and the present. The ESA model, along with the need for elicitation as well, allows for the teacher to interact with students in different teaching-based contexts while creating an environment in which students are actively engaged in new material. There are a wide variety of strategies and tools for each stage of the ESA model, but the important theme stretching across each step in the teaching lesson is the need for the teacher to correctly balance explicit teaching and student discovery, with special consideration given for the appropriate times for correction. Learning about these tools and framework taught me to how to approach individual lessons given a goal I have in mind for what my students should learn on that particular day. More specifically, it gave me a survey of how to break down a much longer lesson into its component parts while maintaining continuity and clarity.
