This unit was about course books and lesson materials and the advantages and disadvantages if both. I agree that with coursebooks they have been tried and tested curriculum but students can view them as boring. In my experience, course books tend to move quickly through the units and do not necessarily allow for correction of concepts or more in-depth learning. I like the idea of using created materials to go more in-depth or add on more interesting topics. I think what this unit showed is that a teacher needs to be creative and always have the students' needs in mind. Some concepts may need more class time than the course book allows. I think the course books are wonderful for showing what needs to come next but they may be limited in how to teach the lesson. That is where the teacher's creativity comes in. If the course book does not easily follow the ESA lesson plan, the teacher will need to create his own materials to allow for that type of lesson. I particularly liked the sample materials given in this unit. The materials can be adapted to all learning levels.
