This unit was about the importance of the receptive skills: reading and listening. It showed the two reasons people read or listen to texts: for entertainment and for a purpose. Also covered in this lesson was the importance of choosing topics to cover in lessons and examples of ESA lesson plans in how to get students to use their reading comprehension and listening skills. I learned in this lesson the importance in using non-authentic materials for beginning level students as these materials are designed for the language learners so they can understand better. And the authentic materials are better used for more intermediate students as it's geared for native speakers. Also the topics the teacher chooses are very important as it can either have the students bored and not engaging or interested and participating in the lesson. To do this, the teacher should know their students and the students' interests and cover a variety of these topics so all students are equally being catered to in the lessons as the topics can't be for just an individual student all the time.
