Unit 9 explains the importance of planning lessons as well as provides suggestions for structuring lesson plans for inexperienced teachers. The unit infers the benefits of lesson planning, which include being able to keep your topics and activities organized throughout the lesson, maintaining an accurate time of how long activities should last, as well as setting learner objectives and personal teaching goals. Further, this unit provides practice for beginning teachers to prepare lesson plans based off of real classroom material, which I found to be a very practical example of how teaching in real life will be. Lastly, I found the template provided in this unit to be the most helpful piece of material, as this helps to sooth my largest fears about teaching - how to keep activities and topics organized and effective. I feel that having an organized lesson plan will be the cornerstone to a successful first year of teaching. Once I understand the usual flow of class, I will likely use them less, but it gives me comfort to know that I will be prepared for my first class.
