Teach English in Liuchang Zhen - Guiyang Shi
I must admit this unit had a lot of information to study and understand. Unit 13 explains how teachers can effectively teach pronunciation and intonation to students who are learning English as a second language. I like how this unit took the consonants and vowels of the alphabet, and explained how they are pronounced through the use of diagrams showing certain parts of the mouth (For example, dental: letters involving the teeth, Glottis: the letter is made by adjusting the airflow through the vocal cords, etc.), and how to write them phonetically using the international phonetic alphabet (ae, S, ou, ai, etc.). I also like how this unit described the use and meanings of the different types of intonations (rise/fall, fall/rise, flat, etc.) This made me curious to see how I articulate and pronounce my own sentences, to see where I can improve. I have realized that this is important to teach to all students, and even though our students will not be 100% correct in their pronunciation, it is necessary for them to know in order to better interpret the meanings of sentences.
