This unit covered two of the most fundamental aspects of the classroom, the teacher and the student, and it introduced the relationship between the two that would be vital to success for each. It established the characteristics of each that would make for a motivational and communicative learning environment. By breaking down the qualities of a good teacher and pairing these with the necessary and varied roles that a teacher serves, this unit provided me with the knowledge that the teacher's role is not just as an authority figure and instructor in the manager/controller connotation, but also as a resource for the students and a participant in the learning process with them. From this section, I have learned the many reasons for a student to be either motivated or unmotivated, and I have learned the basics of encouraging a student without hindering his or her progress. As well as learning the many roles of a teacher, I have also learned the many qualities and language levels of students that can affect not only their interest in the coursework but also their self esteem.
