This unit covered the methods of teaching new vocabulary and grammar to students. There are many different uses, meanings, and forms to understand when it comes to grammar and vocabulary. This unit revealed that ESA methods such as Patchwork ESA, straight arrow or boomerang are all effective ways to drill new lessons into the minds of these learners. The engage phase of a lesson usually involves pictures or discussions, giving the students the opportunity to identify what they already know and learn what they don't know. The images or scenarios are useful for incorporating a real life understanding into the lesson of the new vocabulary or grammar. The study phase of the lesson is good for drilling writing and pronunciation of these into the students memory. Then, the activate phase is good for language practice, which is why this part of the lesson uses a lot of group speaking activities such as debates to give students the optimal chance to practice and try to understand each other--and this is also the phase of the lesson where the teacher tries to do minimal speaking.
