This unit first provided a clear and useful description of the difference between authentic and created materials, as well as the pros and cons of each, and will be helpful when trying to select both appropriate and engaging/interesting material for a class. Secondly, the various activities provided in the unit will be most helpful in generating ideas for created materials. Furthermore, I learned the pros and cons of using course books, which was very helpful as it points to the many important factors to consider when selecting a course book. And in some cases, a course book may not actually be the right decision for the class after taking factors such as We must consider factors such as price, accessibility, cultural/topical relevance, etc. I also learned of the importance of being flexible with developing/using material, as we always must consider whether it will be engaging, and thus effective for the students. It seems that often what is best is combining personally developed activities with those from the course book, being aware of what the students best respond to.
