Teach English in FengsAn Zhen - Guiyang Shi
Unit 18 covered the last elements of grammar for this course: modals, phrasal verbs, and the passive voice. Modal auxiliary verbs are essentially \"helping\" verbs, and mainly add some kind of tone or meaning to a sentence, that otherwise wouldn't have the same meaning. They are essential to the mastery of the english language, because of their attachment to meaning, and how frequently they are used. The passive voice is something I know most native speakers don't understand completely, it's certainly critical for English language learners who want to improve their reading comprehension and writing skills. Relative clauses are also not widely recognized by native speakers, but are important for comprehension because of what can seem to be subtle differences between defining and non defining relative clauses. Phrasal verbs are so much a part of the English language, the advice to use them as vocabulary seems very appropriate to me. For me learning phrasal verbs in other languages has been difficult, but once you learn how to use them correctly, you sound much more fluent!
