Writing and speaking require much effort and confidence on the part of a student. Practicing speaking skills means that a student is going to make mistakes and may be intimidated to try to practice speaking in front of other people. Writing is more private but it still tests the students ability to produce words in the English language. Each skill has its hurdles but it is very important to teach these in the classroom. It is important to have a balance when requiring accuracy in speaking and writing and encouraging fluency. A teacher should build up a student's confidence in speaking by encouraging fluency and as a student becomes more fluent and comfortable speaking, accuracy can be implemented. Modeling the English language in speaking is also an important factor when encouraging students to speak. Teaching writing requires much patience as it is a slow and difficult skill to master. Understanding grammar structures will make writing a much easier process for a student. Writing should be interesting and the topics should be centered around the interests of the students.
