The 5th Unit teaches us how to manage classes effectively. In order to establish a good rapport with the students, a teacher should be able to use an eye contact, gestures and the voice in a proper way. To organize the class well the teacher should also use different ways of grouping students (such as whole class grouping, students working on their own, pair work and group work). Each type of grouping can be used effectively depending on the type of activity; the teacher should also take into consideration the size of the class and classroom furniture. To maintain the discipline and get all the students involved in the activity the teacher needs to find a good classroom arrangement. The teacher?s position in the classroom should vary depending on the activity and teacher?s role in it. The Unit also gives us some other advice on how to maintain discipline and establish rapport with the students. During my first year of teaching maintaining the discipline was the most difficult part of teaching for me, that?s why I find this Unit very useful for new teachers.
