This unit explains topics relevant to the teacher and learner role in a classroom setting. Some of the topics mentioned where the types of teachers, types of learners, levels of the English language, and reasons for teaching the English language. More specifically, teachers must fulfill various roles such as manager/controller, model, facilitator, observer, tutor, participant, prompter assessor, and organizer. The qualities relating to the learner vary from age, cultural background, nervousness, motivation, language awareness, and learning and life experiences. In general, a good learner is someone who asks a lot of questions, is motivated to learn more about the English language, able to accept error corrections, thinks through with the learning process and how to solve problems, and most importantly a desire to learn overall. The unit highlights the categories of levels for the English language ranging from beginner to advance. Moreover, the unit briefly reflects on the Common European Framework of different categories on the different levels of knowledge in the English language. Overall, this unit was introductory part outlining important components on qualities of teachers as well as learners who are invested to learn more about the English language.
