This is a good unit for a difficult subject to teach EFL students. The formulas and explanations used for affirmative statements, negative statements, and questions provide an easy to follow tool for making appropriate past tense sentences. Native speakers can take being able to use the past tense effectively for granted. Even though we use it in everyday situations, we do not think of all the rules associated with forming the speech, it just happens naturally. This unit successfully outlined all the details needed in order to teach it to a group of English as a Foreign Language students. This unit combined with Unit 3, should result in positive results when teaching past tenses. The issue I can see arising when teaching this topic comes from conjugating irregular verbs into the past tense. Without rules for forming them, teachers will have to rely on memorization and devise ways to drill their class. However, by noting that all continuous forms will feature \"to be\" plus base form plus ing, all perfect forms will feature \"to have\" plus past participle, and all perfect continuous forms will feature \"to have\" plus been plus base form plus ing; will help students be able to begin using the different forms of English past tense more successfully.
