Unit 20 presents a good overview of the problem situations EFL teachers are likely to encounter with the first lessons in new or existing class, such as: when and how to deal with different levels in a same class, how to manage a large group of students or reluctant students, which are the problems which may arise with the use of native language in a monolingual classroom and how to manage students which have difficulties with listening texts. I feel the advice and pedagogical solutions given throughout the unit were useful and relatively easy to put in practice in our own classroom and to include in our own teaching practice. For example, how ?warmers? type of activities at the start of a lesson can motivate and inspire students to English. Or for example, when having difficulties managing a large classroom and trying to involve all the students equally, techniques such as pair/group work, the use of worksheets, creating class dynamics, choral repetition and/or appointing group leaders can make classroom management easier. I also liked the idea of pairing stronger students with weaker students, to manage different levels in a classroom and the idea of pair work and role play to encourage reluctant students to speak and participate in class.
