This unit has taught me what it means to manage an ESL class especially bearing in mind that the rapport between the teacher and students and most importantly the classroom environment is a very important building block in an effective learning. In my short ESL teaching career, I have discovered that most of my challenges in managing large classes of up to 50 children of between 5-10 years and teenagers arise from the fact that I have never been exposed to classroom managemenet training and so the traditional methods of \"Teacher dominance\" by yelling and applying \"iron fist\" techiniques have been counter productive. Now I know I will be able to vary my teaching teachniques like group work and pairs, vary class activities,encourage more student involvement and deal with probelem students individually. I also learnt that building rapport with the students is very important to gain their trust and confidence especially in the diverse cultural ESL environments. This along with positive reinforcement will help build learners' interest in the langauage especially for \"the not so eager to learn\" teenagers who feel they are being forced to learn a new language that they don't particularly care about, as I have found out in Public schools in Latin America.
