Developing one's teaching style is crucial in becoming a good teacher. Although being an extrovert or introvert might play a role in that development neither personality type is more likely to yield a better teacher. Being a good teacher is a delicate balance between being friendly/approachable and being firm/consistent. It is important to always follow the rules you have set forth but one should never be unreasonable. This unit presented various ways to ensure good classroom management. It is important to recognize that no one method is good enough in and of itself and that it is the coordination of all of these different methods that ensure good classroom management. For example, if I use eye contact as an indication to a student that they should get back on track I should also consider my seating arrangement because perhaps had I considered that beforehand I would not have sat that student next to another student with whom I know they often get off topic. This unit asked us to consider the following methods to assist us in our classroom management: eye contact, gestures, voice, the way students are grouped,the arrangement of tables or desks, the use of the board, how we give instructions, the importance of establishing rapport, and maintaining discipline.
