In this unit, I was introduced to the Language acquisition methodologies that have developed throughout history. I think a combination of several of these methodologies would be best. Each of the methodologies have their positive and negative points. For example, Total Physical Response, is great to use with young learners, but is effective with teens or adults. In order to learn, we need to use repetition as the audio-lingualism used but the language must also be practiced within context which is what the community language learning method supports. I believe the ESA methodology is the best as it seems to be a combination of several methods into one method that allows teachers to make use of all the positive attributes of the different methods. Students are engaged or get a warm up to start the brain to thinking in the target language. Then the students are taught the new vocabulary with a variety of activities that will help the students learn the material. Finally the students practice using the new learning within context (real sentence structures) that help the student know how the words are used. This also helps the students to \"think\" in the target language and it challenges them to use a wide range of vocabulary and grammar they have previously learned.
