Unit 19 overviews various types of classes from 1 on 1 to larger groups which can including younger learners and adult learners. The 1 on 1 groups are often business people looking to develop specific skills in order to learn some English to do their job. These clients can range from lawyers to hotel staff and unfortunately these adults are often less able to learn due to being older but also being more tired and having sporadic schedules. Young learners can be rewarding to teach and often done in larger groups as classes in school although one can get the occasional one to one with younger learners. In this environment it is key to be able to be work at their level and play games in order to keep them interested by avoiding boredom which helps to keep discipline. When teaching all learners it is key to maintain English spoken all or almost all the time in order to give them practice and so they don?t wait out the teacher. Classes themselves can vary in the composition especially in a native English speaking country where you might have a group of various different mother tongues wanting to learn English. One of the benefits of these classes compared to monolingual mother tongue classes is students cannot communicate in between each other as well.
