In unit 2, I learn how to recognize and classify the 8 different parts of speech?Nouns, Adjectives, Articles, Verbs, Adverbs, Gerunds, Pronounce, Prepositions and Conjunctions. Nouns name a person, place, thing or idea and have 5 main types- the Common, Proper, Compound, Abstract and Collective nouns. Adjectives are used to describe nouns such as people and things. There are 2 different forms of adjectives, which is the comparative and the superlative adjective. The two types of articles are the definite article (the) and indefinite articles (a and an). Verbs are a ?doing? word and are either transitive or intransitive. They also can be categorized into 4 different verb forms?the base form, past simple, past participle and present participle. Adverbs add meaning or information to the action and answers the questions where, when, how often and to what extent. A gerund is the -ing form of a verb used as a noun. Pronouns are words that takes the place of a noun. The four types of pronouns are the personal, possessive, reflexive and relative pronoun. Prepositions show the relationship between a noun or a pronoun and can be classified into 3 categories-- place, time and movement. Lastly, I learn that conjunctions join words or groups in a sentence.
