This unit covered the productive skills which are speaking and writing. In speaking, we focus equally on accuracy (structured correctness) and fluency (creative experimenting). There are different activities used for both and/or a mixture of both with different levels of teacher control. In order to practice speaking, the teacher needs to create a safe and encouraging environment so that students are free (not afraid) to talk and explore the language. To encourage more interaction, the unit suggests pair and group work, a sufficient amount of structured practice before fluency activities, coming into the lesson with a structured plan and making sure to give students enough time to think about what they want to say. Throughout speaking activities it is more about the process than the product. In writing activities it is important to grow in these areas: handwriting, spelling, knowing different layouts, punctuation and being creative (poems, short stories, plays etc.). Throughout writing activities, the teacher again needs to create a desire for students to want to participate. The unit ended with a discussion on the importance of using games in the activity stage, offering many common games that can be used to promote spelling, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary.
