Unit 19 is based on teaching special groups. These groups comprises of; Beginners. The beginners are of different types such as; the absolute beginner who has no English at all, the false beginner, the adult beginner, the young beginner and the beginner without Roman alphabet. After describing the above type of beginners, the unit goes further to bring out the tips for teaching beginners. The second group is teaching individual students. Here, the unit looks at suitable 1-1 activities that can be employed by the teacher to achieve success with this type of teaching. The next group it looks at is teaching children. It examines some do?s and don?ts for teaching children. The next is teaching English for specific purposes, and it ends up with the monolingual and the multilingual classes, it brings out the advantages of teaching multilingual groups over monolingual groups. What I have learnt from this unit is that success in teaching English as a foreign language to any of the above mentioned groups will largely depend on the smartness of the teacher to be able to identify the type of group, their needs, the type of materials to be used in teaching them, the type of activities to use in and out of class, and the various techniques used in presenting lessons.
