There are two ways of communicating: speaking and writing. When teaching these productive skills, the teacher must create the need and desire, in students, to communicate. When it comes to speaking, both accuracy (being correct) and fluency (being creative) are of equal importance, the first is more likely to be used in the ?study? phase, whereas the latter in the ?activate? phase of the lesson. There is a variety of speaking activities that can be used in classroom ? controlled activities, guided ones, activities for creative communication, etc. In order to encourage interaction, the teacher may use different social forms of classwork. When it comes to writing skills, the things students should pay attention to include: the layout, spelling, punctuation and penmanship. The teacher should always give them enough time to think what they are going to write about and not hurry them up. What have I found as the most useful idea in the Unit? - Using games with students of all levels. Games bring in fun and entertaining segment to the lesson. I think they should be more often included into the lesson because they are an excellent way to encourage students? participation (especially when it comes to speaking ? developing speaking skills).
