This units coverage about receptive skills was informative and a refresher. When I was in school we would read text or novels depending on grade level. Most of the time it was for purpose of reading comprehension. We would get the chance to go to the library and get books for entertainment. Reading and understanding the content is also important being able to tell when something is literal or figuratively. I remember seeing in the text books a list of words or vocabulary that will be seen in the reading example. This is were the pre-existing knowledge comes into play. With students whose first language is English, being prepared will help with the upcoming task. When it comes to tasks they should be pertaining to the lesson objective and not have focus else where. I remember times when in school, the teacher gave us work and actually called it \"busy work.\" Looking back, I understand now that this work had nothing to do with the objective and at the time there was no clear objective. This unit has reminded me of how to read a passage or text with purpose. In addition depending on my purpose for reading which skills do I need to use to better understand it. In conclusion, receptive skills can go along way when reading and better helps ones comprehension of the material.
