In my opinion, a good teacher should use coursebooks, authentic materials, recordings, but to choose them and combine in a very specific way to motivate students and to develop their language skills gradually. Authentic materials are some newspapers, books, TV programs which are produced in the country of the native language. Teacher can use such materials for all levels, but must choose them very carefully. Otherwise, he or she can use created materials (flashcards, role-play cards, crosswords, picture stories and so on). But such materials require a big level of creativity and time. So there is a third variant - coursebooks. Normally, they include: student?s book, workbook, teacher?s book, recordings, sometimes video recordings and extra materials (flashcards, sticker books.) When we choose a coursebook we need to analyse next points: ? level ?price ? design ? Topics ? Methodology ? Skills it includes Also there are several advantages and disadvantages for using the coursebook: + graded by levels A balance of grammar, vocabulary, skills work Materials are tried and tested Teacher book provides many good ideas - Lesson can become too predictive It doesn?t fit some specific needs It dictates what has to be taught
