Teach English in Fenghuang Zhen - Guilin Shi
This unit introduced different theories and methodologies of English language acquisition. Each theory was introduced and a brief explanation given. There was also a brief description of the methodology of each theory. It also explained why this course uses the ESA approach conceived by Jeremy Farmer and how it adds and builds the previous theories. I really enjoyed this unit as it laid out lesson plans and gave good examples such as the straight arrow technique and the boomerang technique. It gave a plan on how and when to modify each stage to suit the students language level. I felt that each phase gave plenty of details and examples on how to do each phase but left room for my own creativity. I like how it was stressed that each phase is student centered. I got clear, concise instructions on how and when to make corrections. Something new I learned was the difference between a mistake and an error. I also learned that as a teacher, I should be the last resort of correction. I should try first to let them correct themselves. If they can not make the correction, have other students help. Lastly, I make the correction if needed. This unit was very interesting to me. As I was reading, I was visualizing how to put all of this in to practice. This was a very helpful chapter.
