This unit was about problems that might come up in the classroom. Although short, I think there were a lot of good ideas in this lesson. I like the ideas for first lessons. I think it is very important to get to know the students as quickly as possible. The activities that were suggested are good, but I wonder how well some would work in a class with little to no English knowledge. I think doing a little game or something at the beginning of a lesson as a 'warmer' is a good idea. In college, when I had an early morning class, sometimes I would get a professor that jumped straight in to the lesson and many of us struggled to get motivated. It would have been nice to have some sort of 'wake up' activity to get us ready for the class. I know that sometimes it will be out of my control, but I would definitely prefer teaching smaller classes. I think it is better to have small classes. I think with big classes, it's more likely that there will be students that try to 'hide' in the back of the class so they don't have to participate as much. With a small class, they are more or less forced to participate more. I know there are a lot of students out there that hate to be singled out or put on the spot (me included), but practicing a language helps so much in improving your skills.
