Teach English in DingjiAng Zhen - Guilin Shi
This lesson focused on a very essential part of learning a new language. I believe that in many cases a sentence does not have to grammatically correct if the person speaking has good pronunciation. They will appear \"better\" at English even if they aren't completely accurate with it. I appreciate how this lesson outlined individual sounds of the English language and how those sounds fit together to form a sentence. Intonation is also important to \"read\" the context of a situation or conversation. For more advanced students, I would focus more on the intonation of entire sentences and fix individual syllable flaws if necessary. For beginners, I would heavily drill pronunciation. Now that I am more aware of exactly how sounds are made in each of the vocal organs, I can teach them properly. As for the phoneme system, I will certainly memorize it. However, I know as a student of foreign language that if I don't know how to pronounce something I will write it down in terms I understand. For example, if I'm teaching Korean students, I feel they are more likely to write words they frequently mispronounce in Hangul as opposed to writing it in the English phonemes. But, it is important for them to know for reasons like reading a dictionary, so I will teach it to them regardless.
