This unit covered the basic grammar of the English language. In order for teachers of English language to be resourceful and good teachers, they must have a concise and strong knowledge base of the language that they are teaching. Basic components to sentence structure were taught or reviewed throughout this lesson. For example adjectives (describe nouns), nouns (person, place, thing), pronouns (come before a noun/in place of noun, possessive or reflexive), adverbs (add meaning), verbs (transitive, intransitive, auxillary, and verb forms), gerunds (-ing), and definite and indefinite articles. It is important that teachers of any language are aware and knowledgable of grammatical rules and components in order to effective teach the language correctly. For example, it is very natural for a Native speaker to be able to speak their Native language without knowing the rules of grammar - it just comes naturally. However, for the acquisition of a new language to be successful and to make sense, a teacher must convey rules and exceptions of the language to his or her students so that they have a reference to draw upon and learn from. It is very difficult to pick up a new language with acquiring correct grammatical expression and sentence structure if there is no learning of grammar itself.
