I learned that there are certain qualities that make up good teachers, as well as good learners. Teachers need to be aware of different ages, experience levels, and cultures of their students, and be able to fulfill certain roles in the classroom when necessary. There are many qualities that a good teacher should possess, such as being passionate about teaching, caring about the students, able to correct without offending and being inspiring. Likewise, qualities of a good learner are being motivated, being willing to make mistakes, being willing to ask questions and willingness to accept correction. There are several roles a teacher will need to fill during the class, including manager, monitor, example, organizer, prompter, facilitator, and assessor. The six stages of learning are: Beginner, Elementary, Pre-intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, and Advanced. There will be many differences between young and adult learners, including previous knowledge, motivation, previous learning experiences, peer pressure and learning habits. Some reasons for people to seek an education in English include job opportunities, talking to colleagues, traveling, moving to an English-speaking country, and English-speaking spouses or partners, as well as general interest in the language.
