Both lessons provide an accurate example of different level of student participation in the class. During the first lesson it was apparent that teacher lacked positivity and failed to get students actively engaged in the class. Teacher didn't try to learn the names of the students or involve all of them in the lesson, he didn't attempt to explain the concepts in different manner when they didn't understand instead of saying that material is easy and understandable for anyone. During the second lesson teacher showed a positive and engaging attitude towards the students and tried to get everyone involved by using their names and calling on them to participate in the lesson in unpredictable manner. In the second lesson Engage and Study phases were effective because teacher used a concept that students understood and encouraged them to participate by praising them for the correct answers instead of reprimanding them for the incorrect ones. Teacher also used better techniques of engaging students such as gestures and miming together with prompting techniques of pictures of vocabulary items and his own made drawings. After defining auxiliary modal verb can and can't in the Study phase teacher allowed the students to use the concept they learned in a creative manner in the Activate phase.
