This unit focused on classroom management. Factors such as class size, role of the teacher, seating arrangements, student pairings, and discipline were all considered in this unit. The main points of this unit were that the teacher can and should change these factors in the classroom, depending on the type of students in the class, physical space, and stage of the lesson, and different arrangements for both students and the classroom have various pros and cons. The role of the teacher, the types of students, and the type of activity will largely determine how the classroom and students are organized for the day or for the activity. Discipline was also addressed, as to how to use discipline to maintain control, and what factors may cause behavioral problems among the students. In this unit, I learned the pros and cons of different student and seating arrangements, and which ones work best for certain activities. I learned the best ways to increase student participation and decrease teacher talk time, while still maintaining control of the classroom and establishing rapport. This unit was helpful in planning how to organize the activities to best help the students communicate with the teacher and with each other, while still learning what they are supposed to and establishing self-reliance.
