Teach English in JiAngnan Jiedao - Guigang Shi
The unit began with a brief overview of many different teaching styles. They varied in approach in subtle ways and extreme ways. All have benefits and flaws, but some more than others. They were presented because not all people have the same attributes so it is beneficial to see different approaches to teaching so that a particular teacher can apply particular aspects of one method or another as his/her style demands, or as his/her class demands. No teacher or class is alike, therefore the more knowledge and exposure on ways to approach students the better prepared the teacher will be. The second half of the unit focused on the ESA method of teaching, which is very logical. It can be extremely simple or fairly complex depending on the lesson. This is because ESA is designed to be flexible to meet the classes needs based on size, age, and level level of the students, as well as the difficulty of the target language within the lesson. ESA can be adapted lesson by lesson through the straight arrow, boomerang and patchwork lesson plan as necessary. The unit ends with various examples of activities that can be applied to either the engage, study or activate phase of ESA as well as good practical advice on correcting and monitoring students without being detrimental to the student or class.
