Conditionals are sentences containing ?if? or similar expressions which refers to past present and future activities. There are five main conditionals, we use zero conditionals when we talk about something that is generally true, it is formed by using ?if/when? plus present tense or by using a present tense. First conditional is used to talk about things that might happen in the future. It is formed by using ?if? plus present simple and will. Second conditional is we can use it to talk about things in the future that are probably not going to be true or impossible, it is formed by using ?if? plus a past simple tense, would plus infinitive. Third conditional talks about the past. It is used to describe a situation that didn't happen, and to imagine the result of this situation. Mixed conditionals are conditionals where the tense in the main clause is different from the tense in the conditional clause. This unit also looked at reported and direct speech. Direct speech is when we report what someone says by repeating the exact words. In writing, we use inverted commas. While reported speech is when we give the same meaning of what someone says without repeating the exact words. In this case, we do not use inverted commas and certain changes may be necessary.
