I found this visual unit to be very helpful because it allowed me to witness and take note of what an actual teaching process may look like. In the first video, I noticed the teacher's lack of positive reinforcement when a student gave an incorrect answer and also a failure to explain to the student why he or she was wrong, which does not promote learning but rather just lessens the students' likelihood of participating again. Also, he failed to use any visual props to aid in understanding or foster creativity. His lesson plan did not include any engaging activities in the start of class to help clarify or prep students for the study phase of the lesson - he rather jumped right into the grammatical piece and it influenced the scope of the entire class. In the second video, the teacher was encouraging as students participated and offered positive feedback as they went through the learning process. He smiled, called students by name, and created a fun and exciting atmosphere in which his students could learn. He set up his lesson so that students had animals and their verbs fresh in mind before introducing the grammar of can/can't as a way to provide students with content to apply the grammar to. His positivity and creative preparedness made all the difference in how the students took to the lesson.
