This unit examines the use of conditionals and reported speech in learning the language. These conditionals include: if and when. There exist five main conditionals which are: Zero conditional which takes the form of if + present tense which refers to actions and facts that are irrefutable. The first conditional takes the which takes the form if + present simple, will The second conditional which takes the form of if + past simple, would / could which communicates a present or future ?unreal? hypothetical situation that is not true. The third conditional takes the form of if + past perfect, would/could/might. Mixed conditional combines the second conditional clause with a third conditional, that is if + past perfect, would + base form. This unit also provides teaching ideas for conditional which include: split sentences, Completing conditionals, chain conditions, what a question!, Nuclear bunker role play, and using questions like what happen if? This unit further changes direct questions to indirect or Reported speech. We note the changes that takes place when reporting verb tenses, Direct speech to reported speech, pronouns, time expressions. This unit has greatly helped me in providing me with teaching ideas such as concerning intermediaries, reporting verbs, and media interviews.
