A helpful discussion regarding the relationship between teachers and learners. Summary qualities that link both the teacher and the learner would be interest/motivation/desire and care. Teachers should not only be interested in the subject that they teach but also for the well-being of their students. They should care for both student and subject. Teachers should also be motivated themselves to see their students succeed. Likewise, students should have both interest/motivation/desire and care--interested (and respect) for the subject they're taught and care for their own--and their peers'--education. I wish to stress that motivation and care are particularly important for student learning. Learning is impeded in the absence of motivation. A further discussion should focus on ways or modes of motivating students. The distinction made between younger and older learners is also very important. Educators need to aware of the different learning experience, motivation, nervousness, language awareness, behavior, life experiences and cultural sensitive of students. This may be challenging, given the reality that there may different ages in a class, but the educator needs to take special care to develop creative programs to get an equitable number of students involved in the learning process.
