Unit 14 covered different types of lesson materials. One of the most common materials would be a classroom textbook. There are many advantages of using one, but there are also disadvantages. Some advantages would be already having the material for the class, textbooks often come with supplementary materials, and students would know what to expect from each lesson ahead of time. However, the downsides of using a textbook are that often times the material is not relevant to the particular class, the material can be outdated, and it can make the class too predictable. While textbooks can be helpful to use in the classroom, authentic and created materials should be added in to make the material more relatable. Authentic materials are things that students could see in every day life, like magazines and movies. Created materials are often made by the teacher and can be used as visuals to help the student understand the material. Some examples of created materials are word puzzles and cross words.
