Unit 14 examined the place of coursebooks in a ESL classroom. It provided insight into the advantages of using coursebooks and what was usually included in a coursebook set. Some examples of these materials would be text books and related materials for students and teacher editions and some materials for the class as a whole to use. The primary advantages of using these materials seems to be a balance of grammar, vocabulary and practice of skills and a tried and true curriculum designed to meet students at their current level of language development." In addition, Unit 14 discussed authentic materials and teacher created materials. Authentic materials use real world examples and thus are usually met with a great deal of student interest. The disadvantage here is not being able to "level" the materials on an accurate basis. It is a learned process for the teacher. Teacher created materials are also usually met with student interest depending on the teacher's ability to create relative content.
