There are many things to consider when choosing a course book for a class. I feel that the most important is considering if it fits the style of teaching of the teacher. Course books are written very generically and not with a specific class in mind. So even if the coursebook fits the style of the teacher the teacher will still need to omit, replace, supplement and adapt the material. Each particular group of students will be different and as the teacher becomes acquainted with the students the teacher will discover the needs. The teacher should be flexible and find materials that fulfill the needs of the students in considering their interests and levels and learning styles. The teacher learns to choose appropriate materials from experience, from looking at many books, and from the suggestions and examples of other teachers. Teaching is a creative experience and a teacher needs to survey many materials to be able to pick and choose and create those materials which best fits the students needs.
