I found the past tense more difficult than the present tense and I also find that students have a harder time talking in the past tense. As I've mentioned previously, I teach kids who are pretty much all beginners. I can imagine how difficult it would be to start teaching past tenses to students although I think I would enjoy the challenge.I find that the different techniques of handling control in the classroom is very much insightful. For example, I now know how to take more notice of my students when I am writing on whiteboards and giving information. I also think that rapport in the classroom is one of the key factors in establishing the students' enjoyment in the lesson.
