Teach English in Xiaofeng Jingji Zuowu Chang - Fangchenggang Shi
The two receptive skills are speaking and writing. Though both are important, fluency focuses on the speaking skill while accuracy focuses on the writing skill. Students must know the reason or purpose as to why they are speaking or writing; otherwise they will lose motivation in learning these skills. The teacher must also find ways to engage students' interest in a topic in order to motivate them to speak or write. In both speaking and writing, the teacher must give students ample time to prepare or think about what they are going to say or write. To promote fluency, the teacher must refrain from giving corrections or feedback in the middle of a speaking activity. These must be given at the end instead. To encourage writing, students (especially those who have a different alphabet) must be given ample time to practice writing the English letters in order to promote a neat penmanship. This will also impact the way his/her readers perceive her as a writer. Students who have a different alphabet may encounter some challenges in learning how to write in English. This is due to the unique elements in the language such as punctuation marks, contractions, homophones and homographs. Such factors need to be practiced and drilled with the students to remove barriers such as difficulty and unfamiliarity.
