In this unit, it's all about pronunciation and phonology and the techniques on how we can teach our students to learn and understand it. Pronouncing words correctly plays a lot in communication. Like in Asia, some words mean different when you pronounce it wrong. That's why as a teacher we also need to make sure that our students not only understand English but also can say it correctly. Also, bear in mind that our students will never speak English as a native speaker, we have to be prepared to accept intelligibility instead of perfection. Phonology is the study, analysis and classification of the physical properties of sound. There are three important areas of phonology: intonation (the variation in volume and pitch in a whole sentence), stress (is an emphasis given to a certain syllable in a word or to a certain word in a sentence) and rhythm (the sense of movement in speech). As a teacher, we should be aware and knowledgeable of these areas because our students are relying on us to learn it properly. As they said in this unit, there is no right or wrong way in teaching pronunciation and when we should include it in our lessons. Also, there are some recommended materials for practice in English pronunciation and phonology that we can use, as a guide, or to get some ideas to use in our teachings.
