Teach English in SongshAnhu Guanweihui - Dongguan Shi
Classroom Management is the skill of organizing and managing the class, having a friendly manner, and maintaining discipline. These can be achieved through several ways. The first includes eye contact, gesture, and voice. Good eye contact may be used to ensure the students understand the task at hand, to indicate who is to speak, to encourage contributions, to maintain discipline, and to check class participation. Good use of gestures may be effective in conveying the meaning of the language, adding visual interest, and to reduce the need for verbal explanation. A teacher?s voice may be varied to add clarity or projection in a class. Students may be grouped in various ways depending on the class size and activity at hand: whole-class grouping, students working on their own, in pairs, or in small groups. Providing enough pair and group work during the study and activate stages is important. Teachers should also keep in mind how the classroom is arranged depending on a number of issues. Students may be in orderly rows, circles, or separate tables. Each has its pros and cons for both the teachers and students. The teacher?s position is also something to keep in mind depending on the activity, the teacher?s role in the city, and what the students are expected to do. Board work is also important in classroom management. It?s important for the teacher to remember not to spend too much time with their backs to the class. Giving individual attention to students by remembering their names and including all students equally can help build the students? confidence. Balancing teacher talk time with student talk time should depend on the lesson or activity and the level of the students. When giving instructions effectively, use simple language, be consistent, use visual cues, and check for understanding. Building good rapport between the teacher and students creates a better atmosphere where students are more likely to participate. In the classroom, various disciplinary problems may occur. To prevent problems, it?s important for the teacher to always be consistent and fair, be punctual, be prepared, never lose their temper, and show respect to their students. Should an issue arise, teachers should act immediately, focus on the behavior and not the student, keep calm, and keep to the school?s disciplinary code. What I learned from this unit is that it's important to be aware-- of the students, the teacher's body language/ placement/ gestures, the environment, the classroom arrangement, etc. All these factors affect the atmosphere of the classroom and directly corresponds to the students' learning. Considering all aspects of the class as well as the room may provide a better learning environment tailored for the students' needs. I will keep these subtleties in mind when teaching.
