The content in this lesson revolved around the advantages and disadvantages of using course books in the classroom. We learn that authentic materials, which are reading materials that native English speakers use and access are not the best type of materials for learners as it can cause difficulty in understanding the language. Most teachers swear by using a textbook as it provides a basis for the teacher to go off of and make changes if necessary. The unit also explained what to look for when you are choosing a course book for your class which is highly valuable in a university setting where the professor chooses the material rather than the school itself.
