Unit 4 was about teaching vocabulary, grammar, and language functions. More specifically the unit went over how to use the Engage, Study, Activate approach to teach these three critical parts of language learning. I learned where it is appropriate to use the different tools which are available, and where not to use those tools. For instance, when teaching vocabulary, it is appropriate to use things such as pictures and discussion in the engage phase, and to use word searches and crosswords in the study phase, and to use role-playing and debate in the activate phase, but it would not be appropriate to use debate in the engage phase of vocabulary learning.
